Carter's First Day/Night Home

We picked up Carter from the breeder yesterday around 2pm. She was in the area with some other breeders for the dog show at the Fairgrounds. When we got to the hotel we were greeted by the breeder and a few of her girlfriends (who definitely seemed like they were a good time!), and several pens and crates full of show dogs...Papillons to be exact. If you're not familiar with Papillons they have these enormous ears! Papillon is french for butterfly. Not only does our breeder show and breed Yorkies, but also Papillons.

Our little guy was tucked away in one of the crates, he apparently had been in there for 5 hours with no accidents--yay Carter! He was just as cute as he was the first time we met him about 1 month ago. After we signed the pet agreement and the breeder gave us a bag full of goodies for our guy, we were on our way! We brought a pop-up travel crate to carry him in. The sides and top had some mesh for him to see out of, how nice of us, right? Umm yeah, not so much...he hated it! He was running, as much as he could in a 1.5 foot space and trying to break through the black mesh! Once he was in the car and we were on our way he settled down a bit, but still whined. I thought "oh boy, we are in for a loong night!"

After a quick stop to the Dunkin drive thru for a coffee, we were home! We let him explore the main living areas first and he seemed pretty comfortable right away. After some playing with Adrian and a little exploring outside, he walked right into his crate, yup walked right in (were lucky) and went to sleep.

About 30 minutes later, Aunt Jo and Kiera came over to meet him. Kiera refers to him as "A mobile guinea pig!" Aunt Jo also brought a present from his Aunt Carol Ann, which happens to be his faveorite toy so far...see below! Kiera's toy is a close second!

Finally it was time for bed, and I gotta say I cant believe how well the night went. He slept in his crate for 7 hours straight without a peep! We love him!

Here are some pics--note the tapped ears. This is so that the collagen in his ears will form to make them stand straight up. This is also the bain of my existence because the tape keeps falling off of one ear. So if in the future you see one ear up and one ear flopped over, you'll know why!
